All Scratch Golf heads are made from the finest materials available, using only the best manufacturing processes. We are committed to making the best golf clubs in the world and we spare no expense to do exactly that.
Scratch Golf has long been known to produce the finest Forged Irons and Wedges in the business. Each of our Tour Custom clubs as well as our 1018 Wedges are forged in Hemiji Japan from a bar of 1018 carbon steel. 1018 carbon steel is the softest steel used by any golf club company that forges golf clubs anywhere in the world. Our team of craftsmen in Hemiji combine hundreds of years experience forging golf clubs that even goes back to the days of forging the finest Samurai swords.
Using 1018 Carbon Steel requires a few more Forging steps which makes our clubs more expensive to manufacture. Once the raw heads are forged our talented team of craftsmen go to work shaping each head by hand to our exact specs and exact sole grinds. The 1018 wedges are hand ground by our craftsmen in Japan while the Tour Custom clubs are hand ground at our facility in Chattanooga TN.
Once the raw head has been ground by hand by one of our Master Craftsmen the head is then polished by hand and run through our tumblers to polish and smooth out the surface of the metal prior to final finishing. After the final tumbler polishing stage the club is then ready to be finished into any one of our custom finishes.
Scratch 8620 wedges made of the same metal and using the same process as the other leading wedges on the market. The 8620 wedges are cast from 8620 steel which is the softest steel that can be used to cast a golf club. The grooves and face are CNC milled to assure complete consistency. Once the club is cast only a small amount of hand finishing is needed and then the head is ready to be finished in our standard 8620 Satin finish.
